Fellows, I obtained a Boss 12 bore game gun S/N 72xx a year or so ago, and I have repeatedly emailed Boss on their website (3-4 times) requesting a factory letter, to no avail. No reply; dead silence. Are they still in business? Can anyone tell me how to get ahold of someone with that outfit that could help? Perhaps one of our British forum members could steer me in the right direction. Thanks, Sandlapper

I will be waiting to hear how this works out. I have in the past enquired about buying some accessories and they did respond one time, that was a while ago. In the meantime tell us about your gun.

It is a pretty standard Boss game gun, built mid 1926, straight grip checkered butt , splinter forend, DT, standard frame( not rounded), 29" chopper lump Whitworth, very clean metal with 85% original case color and very sharp clean rose & scroll Sumner engraving, weight 6lbs. 10 ozs., smooth concave rib with 13 Dover St., Piccadilly address, 2 3/4" opened from 2 5/8" at some point, .732" bores, MWT .028": .029", and wood is close to, if not exhibition quality. Probably made for the American market as it ended up at A&F in 1931 and was sold secondhand to A. H. Scaife, who married into the Mellon family. His initials are on the shield. Anyway,a clean, unmessed with example, except for chambers.

Sounda like you are describing mine. Mine was made 1928. Also sold here in the US. The guy also had made through Boss a 12 bore pigeon gun and a 20 bore. In fact on my hard case in ink is the guy's address.

Try emailing their accountant, Jaine Mensa, directly and be prepared to pay in GBP. jaine@bossguns.com. She will send you a .jpg of the order ledger. I am not sure they do those Purdey-style confirmation letters.

Had a similar experience with Purdey. No reply from numerous emails, just silence.

Purdey used to mail you a letter for $100. Now they just send you an email. My Boss was ordered through A&F. Same as my 1929 Purdey. Suppose that was during the time they were pushing sales here to the U.S..

According to the Boss book, V, L & D were appointed U. S. agents for Boss right after WW1, and Bob Robertson came over to New York for 3 months every year in the 20's & 30's to fit and take orders. A&F bought out V, L,& D in 1930, so they handled them after that. My Purdey, one of the lightweight 12 bores was made on Oct.,1928 and was ordered by A&F, according to the letter. By the way, when I ordered my Purdey letter, they sent me an email attachment of the order book. I then requested a copy on Purdey stationery, and I had one within 10 days from Dr. Nick Harlow. A real gentleman. Regards, Sandlapper

I despair at companies that give email address` and then fail to respond to anyone who contacts them ! They must do themselves much harm by being so inattentive to potential customers.
