Anyone have specs on a 14ga shell? Specifically need OD of rim and hull?
My latest antique has smaller chamber than your standard 12ga.Thanks in advance

In one of the later issues of DGJ Ross Seyfried described shooting a black powder 14 bore gun.

As I recall he used 16 bore cases, wrapped with tape to be a sliding fit to the chambers and the 16 bore rim gave sufficient purchase for the 14 bore extractor to work.

16 bore Black Powder loads would be a good starting point.

Thanks Parabola. I did shoot some 16ga high brass rio (largest rim I could find) reloaded to 6k with a roll crimp. They actually patterned well at 23yds. Gun is all original 12ga with one of the first breech loaded brass cartridges. Don’t know why they chose a 14ga size chamber with .726 bore but they did. I will have RMC make me 25 correct size brass or have the chamber and rim opened up to todays 12ga. These are really well made guns and barrels are Birmingham Black powder proofed. I know it sounds horrible but this thing would be great with some regular 12ga paper hulls loaded with pb and or 800x at 5500 psi. I’m sure Dean Harris at skeets could do it well.
Thickness at breech is .150 in and maintains .100 all the way 12” down past my hand with no real pits only slight frosting. It feels like 7.75lbs but I bet it 8.5.

It maybe possible for RMC to make brass shells for it.

Given either a good cast or proper dimensions they could do it.

I had a very high grade gun that I bought from Jaquas. It had a rough bore and the chambers were obviously bored out to 12 gauge, which was consistent with the bore. It turned out to have been one of their proprietary cartridges that use a 12 bore and a chamber of around 14 bore. Someone had bored it out to use 12 gauge shells apparently.

Thanks. This one is all original with the proprietary 12 chambers that are very close to 14. If I were going to shoot this thing regularly,I would have definitely bore it to standard 12ga chambers. It actually patterns well with 16ga taped( one swipe of masking/painting tape)shells and sg16 or zwads of which I have thousands.
