Saw a 10 gauge W.W Greener online, the lot description says 2 3/4 “ chambers. Pictures showing the proofs and chokes show 2 3/4. I have never heard of a 10g 2 3/4 .The gun looks great , but is it a brass shell gun? I thought the tens where 2 7/8? Experts please explain.

It Could be any number of things, guns can be prooved in @ 1/8" increments. I Have in fact seen 2&5/8" proof marks on a top tier London 12 ga. So here goes.
1. Meant to be 2&7/8" but reamer was a little undersize so marked as 2&3/4"
2.Mis Marked at proof.
3.Actually Built as 2&3/4" per customers request.
various others

Here is a link to the pic with proofs.
They say it’s a depression era gun.
Serial is correct for that.

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

This image is from the Greener “Fine Guns” Catalogue No. 60 which is undated but contains testimonials which go up to 1935.

The 10 bore is offered in two Facile Princeps models, Crown grade at 90 guineas and Far-Killer at £47/5/0d (or £70/17/6d if an ejector).

No mention of 10 bore cartridges other than 2 7/8” or 3”.

It looks more like one of their Anson and Deeley guns.

Does it say FH25 or DH25?

i have examined a "not for ball" (pre 1888?) marked boxlock 10 gauge, originally stamped with 10 in the diamond - which i interpreted as standard 2 5/8 chambers. it had made another trip to b'ham under the 1925 rules and was stamped as 3 1/4"....to the best of my knowledge, the longest english 10 ga chambering - prior to the 3 1/2" american magnum.

the gun in question does not appear to me to be an FP action....looks similar to an empire action, but realizing that cannot be the case, i will go with parabola's proposal - that is an a & d gun from the lean years of the great depression.

best regards,
tom
