Gentlemen, Did anyone have success today? I thought the results were quite strong at Holt's today. Personally, I went 1/3 and had to almost double the high estimate on the one success. I was sad to miss one rifle on my commission bid by 100 sterling, but I made the buyer pay for his prize.

I watch more lots than bid on. Many of my favorites were on the thinner barrel side. Did score a couple cases and four accessories lots. My one serious gun bid came up 300 pounds short. I was not even number two in that race. One wall was .031 but the other was .024 and was Black powder proof not nitro and that reproof was almost 50 years ago.

I had some interest in the Boss percussion rifle but did not bid, too many irons in the fire at the moment. So many great guns, so little money wink

Sometimes going Ofer is your best outcome. I just never seem happy if I get shutout. I’ve had more luck unsealed bids lately bidding on basic doubles. Both AyA and water fowl doubles seem to be my lucky picks.

SKB, Always a good eye. I just missed out on that rifle by one increment.

There was a super nice Greener martini that I missed by 50 pounds. Only double I came close to bidding on this time was a plain Westley Richards drop lock. No engraving but a scalloped back. That went for the high estimate. (The little Greener I wanted went for 2x the high estimate, which by the US market price was still low before you consider import costs)

I see that the 4 bore sidelock shotgun didn't sell. It's a beautiful gun but the demand for 4 bores is limited---supply of ammo is limited as well.

I Also noticed that the four bore did not sell. It was a beautiful Watson Bros. Of recent manufacture In exceptional condition. The ask was 20 K + comms. Watson bros have an example on their website priced at 95K, albeit with finer engraving. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but I understand that modern four and eight bores, Unlike vintage examples, are difficult to import into the US.

I would like to hear more about the difficulty of importing modern fours and eights. I suspect that Watson Brothers may still own the four in the Holt's Auction.
