I have a 1949 mfg. M70 Win in .220Swift cal. It has Buehler mounting blocks, and the 1" rings- front ring base pivots 90% and lock in base firmly. Having some problems getting the rear "clamp" style ring base to lock the scope in place solidly. Also, do I set my primary windage with those two locking screws, and then "fine tune" with the windage adjustment on the turret? Should I use Loctite, and if so, what color or grade? Scope is a Weaver 1" model4913 USA made.. do have 3 page instruction sheets from Buehler-- note- might be pre-1963, as there is no zip code after the orinda, ca. address. Note- if my friend Brad B. was still with us, I'd take this down to him for mtg/ and bore-sighting-alas, this is not the case now. Any advice or insights from you fellas would be appreciated. RWTF

I assume that the rear locking clamps are semi hemispherical like the Redfield pictured here.



With my Savage I was not able to bore sight but you will be able to with a bolt action.

I had to use a collimater to establish a reading from the old scope that I was upgrading from.

I suggest:-

1. First check that your scope rings are exactly the right distance apart to centrally engage the clamping screws - you may need to loosen rear scope ring screws, engage bottom half of rear mount with clamps and then re-tighten rear upper ring.
2. Centralise your scope windage adjustment (count the clicks all the way across, go back halfway). Check that the vertical reticle is upright in the front scope ring.
2. Set up a vertical line and bore sight on it
3. Coincide your vertical reticle with the bore sighted line
4. Tighten both clamps alternately and re-check.
5. Chose one to lock, slacken off and re-tighten with blue Loctite.
6. Zero as normal

You should then be able to take the scope off (using the non Loctited clamp) and return reasonably close to Zero.

Yes, just like yours as shown. I do have a bore-sighting tool, with various inserts, including on in the .220Swift cal.. Thank you.. RWTF
