Hello fellas,

I've been asked by a friend who lives some distance away as to whether I'd consider refinishing the stocks on his Merkel. I've been doing such work for a lot of years but have never had occasion to remove the buttstock from a Merkel frame. The gun was made in the mid-1990's, which has me curious whether the buttstock fastens to the frame with a through-bolt as we find on many guns today. His gun has a recoil pad on it, which he doesn't feel competent enough to remove, and I'm not so confident as to have it shipped to me just yet until I know more of the frame's internal mechanics ..... in the event I have to venture there to remove the buttstock. I've tried calling a few phone #s' at the 'Merkel USA' site only to find answering machines.

I'd sure appreciate hearing from any of you who may have experience in this matter before attempting to remove frame-pins, trigger plate, sears, etc. .....as is often required on our earlier models of SxS's and O'U's.

All Best,

Rob

I have destocked my Merkel 8 many times. Other than ridiculously skinny screw slots, there is nothing special about it. No through bolt.
