A coincidence of coincidence today at a gun show. Met an old fellow (damn I keep forgetting I'm getting old too] at a gun show today. He had a few guns and a Lumasix light meter on his table. The meter got me interested and he gave it to me just for recognizing what it was. But then he had a William Dooley of Liverpool sxs percussion with damascus barrels and a grip safety. The grip safety got me interested as I've not seen one on a percussion gun. Suggested mfg 1835-1840. I'm not familiar with a grip safety and I believe it works by locking the triggers?
Then I walked a bit further and came across a Moore & Woodward percussion fowler, damascus barrels, mfg the same dates and a safety grip! And the owner was also a photographer.
What can anyone tell me about the two guns? Going back tomorrow to measure them up and perhaps make some trades. The Dooley was in very good shape on the exterior. Any rough idea of price would be appreciated.
Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

Alright what can anyone tell me about Dooley percussion sxs guns? Best I can find about Dooley is he was more into percussion pistols than shotguns but no other information.
As for the Moore and Woodward seems to be a union with Charles Moore, son of William, and James Woodward. Again that is all the informationI can find.
Any help would be appreciated.

William Dooley, 46, Lime Street, Liverpool1836. 76, Lime Street, Liverpool 1837-39. 11, Ranelagh Street to1864. May have been at Bridge Street, Warrington, Lancashire 1833 prior to Liverpool.
Charles Moore had been about in London at various addresses since1821 seems to have gone into business with James Woodward at 64, St. James's Street, London 1844-72.
May assist a little. As to value that is difficult without examination and British prices can often be much different from what appears in the U.S. and Canada. Lagopus.....

I have a Wm. Dooley, Liverpool single bbl percussion fowler . It is of hooked breech construction w/a single wedge in the forearm allowing bbl TD. Bore measures .704d. No grip safety. A nice light weight percussion gun. Top of bbl at breech & lock both marked with the name & city.
I don't remember what is marked on the underside of the bbl.
