>>Charles Daly's son, along with Gales, continued the business and it appears that both expired by 1925. It was then in 1927 or 1928 that Schoverling, Daly & Gales was sold to Davega Sporing Goods, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davega_Stores (I know some of you don't cotton to Wikipedia), while the Daly trademark was sold to Sloan's Sporting Goods at about the same time.

Then it looks like Davega Sporting Goods faltered in the early 1960s(1963) and Modell Sporting Goods absorbed them. Maybe that's the Modell Sporting Goods connection.<<

I have a copy of the 1930 Daly Catalog.
Shows a No. 20 Diamond Quality O/U for $500 and a No. 30 Empire Quality for $350.

Thank you for looking Jeff.
That must pre-date the Champion, Commander & Superior O/Us.

OUs like this one marked Charles Daly were indeed all over the place in that era. Most had bolstered frames and used the Kersten bolting system. My 1936 Abercrombie and Fitch catalog shows one that they imported under their own name. And my 1940 Shooters Bible includes Zephyr OUs that look very similar. It appears that everyone wanted to offer something that competed with the Browning Superposed and were also offered in smaller gauges.

This one has a single trigger marked Miller. I had assumed it was an aftermarket install. Maybe not.
Looking on the internet for more recent sales to try and establish a fair price. I wouldn't mind owning this one.

Not sure if it was hero worship or what, maybe a sign of the times, but the Germans & Austrians gravitated to the Bockflinte & Bockbüchseflinte & pretty much didn't return. Merkel is a good example of advertising & filling the orders of swayed hunters & shooters.
