Has anybody found Pilkington Classic American Rust Blue lately? I have tried five different places and they all are out of stock. I have a couple solutions coming that I have been wanting to try but I am nearly out of Pilkington.

No, I am down to my last two bottles myself and have been looking as well. I may give Mark Lee's another go if this persists. I have not reduced Brownell's yet either and plan to give that a go, full strength it is too aggressive for the type of rust blue that I do usually.

I had the same problem. I talked with Mark Lee (the guy) and he was in the process of resupplying the retailers which happened and then (at Brownells, at least) they sold out and I had to wait for another shipment. Not sure what is going on but hang in there; I think they will catch up with demand. Gil

I cannot find any Pilkington products any more. Think they may be out of business...

Brownells, like my other four main retailers are out. A lot of that going around. Thanks.

Anti-Gun Democrats call these chronic supply chain shortages, empty shelves, and higher prices "Build Back Better".

Libtards will swear that we are better off this way.

Jon, have you tried the Brownells classic rust blue? That may be in stock. I have been using it and it gives real meaning to the term blackening. I mean the metal comes out black. No hint of blue color no matter what the light conditions are. Don't get me wrong, it looks great. I did a set of Baker barrels and a 1890 and 1906 Winchester recently. They look really good but I was wondering if the Plinkton might have a more blue color that would better match what Winchester did. I've used the Herters fast rust method Belgium blue for years and that always delivers a nice job. I've used both the old formula with mercury as sold by Herters back in the day and the new formula without mercury and they seem to work the same.

I have ordered the Brownells classic blue and four others to try. It is hard when your favorite is not around. I am sure I will find another substitute but I am not looking for the learning curve. Thanks for your suggestion.

I like it as well. I just googled it and found it available here, though a ridiculous price.

I liked their stock finish too.
