What the hell is this country coming to? I had to buy one of those long BBQ lighters today for our woodstove as the last one quit working. I had to have my driver's license scanned to buy it. The reason? Because I might be lighting cigarettes with it. Wonder what politician came up with that bright idea?

I just bought one at my local Ace Hardware. No problem, no questions. Hard to find the refillable version though.
The only constant in life is change.

Have you tried to buy "strike anywhere" matches? Apparently, a bunch of UPS and FedEx trucks have been bursting into flames just like they do transporting ammunition. Hey, they aren't telling us about the train derailments so I guess the trucks burning isn't covered either. It is a wonder we got to the 21st century before the oldtimers burned it up.;) By the way. I have several almost full boxes of strike-on-the-box type with the strike strip worn off. I am safe but frustrated.

But are they “safe and effective?”

You live in a strange place, apparently. Not an issue here or anywhere I've ever been.

And, it's your politician that did it. No "dissing" on you, personally. Personally, I would have refused to buy it when confronted with those demands.
May God bless America and those who defend her.

Mike, did this happen in Alaska? I would have thought a modicum of sanity still prevailed there.

Yes KY Jon. In Soldotna Alaska. I would have thought so too but the madness seems to be everywhere. To be honest I believe that it's a store policy for Fred Meyer's not a state policy/law.
