My 1st Drilling - a Sempert & Krieghoff Blitz-Action - 16x16x8,57JR - 21-3/4" bbls

Although I've collected several Cape Guns over the years, I just purchased my first Drilling.

Its a - Sempert & Krieghoff Blitz-Action Drilling in 16ga,16ga, 8x57JR

I was drawn to this one because of the very short barrels, and its very good condition, with nice engraving. I've figured out the cocking and shooting sequence but have no idea as to the function of the little button ahead of the right trigger. Would like to know if anyone can help with information about this feature and the markings shown.

As always, comments are welcome.

Splendid Drilling Buck!

I think you meant Cape guns. My cap guns were thrown away many years ago, which is sad as they would now be worth something as antiques.

Congratulations, beautiful gun!

Could the little button be the selector to choose to fire either the rifle barrel or shotgun barrels? I am assuming it has a Greener safety, tang cocking lever for the rifle and set trigger. So, has to be a way to select what barrels fire.

Hello Der Ami,
thanks for the reply,

I finally determined the purpose of the button ahead of the right trigger.

If you cock the rifle barrel with the handspanner top-tang cocking/de-cocking slide, the right trigger is dedicated to the rifle barrel. If you then decide not to fire the rifle barrel, then you simply de-cock the rifle firing pin with the handspanner top-tang cocking/de-cocking slide. However, then the right trigger is deactivated and it does nothing because it was dedicated to the rifle barrel. In order to return function back to the shotgun barrel, you have to push the button.

Seems complicated, but once mastered, it functions quite well.
