It has been a few years, but I have shot ducks, pheasants and Sporting Clays with black powder.

Most fun is shooting trap, under the lights on a very calm night..... wink

Entertaining!

I recognised one of the guns “Les” , a .410 champion, who has appeared in Dave Carrie’s videos on loading and testing .410 loads.

Enjoyed that, thank you.
Stan Rod?
Does that include the tube which appears to be stuck into the ground?

Yes it does except his ramrod has a brass door knob. Picture of his rod (and mine which I copied from his suggestion) and the ground tube pictured on this line.

Stanton's door knob ramrod and the ground tube to hold it (he passed the recommendations to me when I was having some ramrod problems).

The gent Gene pictured has a short tube, which would be entirely adequate I suppose. When I had the idea to make mine I was working from scratch, having never heard of anything quite like it. But, necessity being the mother of invention, I built what I thought would work best for me. I would still rather have a tall holder tube, I think. The way mine is made I can use the doorknob on the loading rod, in place in the holder, to push the tube into the ground. No need for a mallet or such. Bottom end of the tube/holder is flattened and ground into a point. The doorknob rests on the flared top end of the tube/holder, while the bottom end of the loading rod never reaches the bottom of the tube.

I once bought some modern made black powder shells from Union Metallic Cartridge. I killed a gobbler with one in an old hammer Elsie and shot a few more on dove shoots. On the first dove shoot my brother ran across the field to make sure the smoke didn't mean my gun had blown up...Geo
