Just for old times sake I bought a 20ga Remington Model 11 Sportsman. It seems to be lacking the friction ring you used to have to reposition when you switched between high and low brass shells.

My question is whether an A-5 Browning 20ga ring will serve as a replacement or do I need to find a Remington ring? Anyone have one they'll sell me?...Geo

I was loaned one in 20 ga., Geo., at age 12 or 13, by a wealthy neighboring landowner to hunt with. He invited me and my Grandfather to several dove shoots a year, and he loved to see me get to shoot. He was a dear friend, though old enough to be my grandfather himself. It had a 26" barrel choked IC, and I killed hundreds of doves and quail with it. I returned it to him when my father gave me a 12 gauge Rem. 1100 for my 16th birthday. That Model 11 brings back some super good memories for me. I hope you enjoy it.

Though I began shooting with a J.C. Higgins .410 S X S at age 8, the 20 ga. M 11 carried me into another realm as a dove shooter.

Is it stored under the Recoil Spring against the receiver?

Mr. Researcher, thanks for that illustration. It shows the positioning just as I remembered so I know where to look. I don't have the Model 11 yet, but the auction ad said the friction ring was missing...Geo

Stan, thanks for the reply. When I was a kid all the hunting guys except for me shot automatics. The rich boys had a sweet sixteen, the rest a model 11. I shot a pump-gun, first a 20ga Model 31 with a bent barrel and then an Ithaca 37 12ga until I was in my forties...Geo

Stumbled across this thread and had to join the group to pass along this info. I've had my model 11 Sportsman 20 ga for about, wow...30 years now! First firearm I ever purchased and one that I will never sell. I started hunting around for some spare parts and found Art's Gun Shop online. He specializes in Browning's but has rebuild kits for the Remington Model 11 as well. A little pricey but the only kit of this type that I'm aware of. They make both 3 and 5 shot kits for the model 11 20 ga. Hope this info helps and doesn't violate any guidelines.

Thanks for the referral, Alex. Yes, I had discovered Art's Gunshop, and have a friction ring on the way now. I hope I don't need the full rebuild kit...Geo

Reading Stan’s granpappy stories makes me miss King all the more.

Sure could spin a yarn.
