This thread replaces and extends the previous 45-70 DR thread for this Beretta 45-90 DR with 26 inch barrels.
First hunt was a success with 100 yard kill on Blackbuck. The same sight picture is right on for 50 yards and 100 yards.
More to come when the issues with photo management are resolved.

So, it was a 45-90 and not a 45-70? How was it marked?

Whoops! I was just watching how well it was shooting as a 45-70 and missed the line about extending the chambers. A few years ago at the SCI show in Reno at the Purdey booth they had a double in 45-70 at a very reasonable price (for a Purdey), actually an incredible price. Fortunately, my wife called me away. Never could fathom how they came to make it in 45-70.

I think I saw a .45-70 Purdey double at Holts some years ago. If I remember correctly (?) it had been rebored and re-chambered, possibly from a .400”.

I have seen one of their .246 double rifles that Paul Roberts converted to a .300” Magnum. That was at Holts about 3 to 4 years ago.

Clarifications:
the original rifle was marked on the barrel as a 45/70 and when the chambers were extended to .45-90, I had the 70 changed to a 90.
Shooters familiar with the 45-90 rifles will know that they also shoot the 45-70.
We now have our barrel mounted chrony tested on a small centerfire rifle and will next use it on my 45-90 DR to test velocities of 45-90 ammo and 45-70 ammo.
Since the 45-90 regulation is very good even out to 100 yards, I will soon experiment to find the velocity at which the 45-70 ammo will regulate.

Do you think your regulation would be the same with something mounted on the muzzles? I'm having trouble with that.

No, I do not.

The barrel mounted chrony is only for sensing the velocity of the bullet.

Since I also shoot a Winchester 1886 45-90 with a 26 inch barrel, I will test my loads in the 1886, not the DR with 26 inch barrels. Any velocity difference should be modest and acceptable for my purpose.

Eightbore,
The rifle is truly a custom on a GR2 Beretta action. The 26 inch 45-90 barrels with chambers and the wood are all custom. Here is a current photo after the rifle was regulated with North Fork 350 SS bullets.
[Linked Image from jpgbox.com]
It is topped off with a Leupold scope on heavy duty QD mounts.
The hard back carry case has foam cut to take the rifle with accessories and the scope detached or attached. It has been a very unpleasant summer, but should soon moderate enough to crony the the regulation load.
