Typically, there isn’t much good news on the subject of gun ownership in Europe. This, is.

This is the usual un knowledgeable local MP wanting to say something to keep the local residents happy. Anybody who uses shotguns here in the UK are well aware that all pump action shotguns must have a limited capacity magazine, this being the reason that the police and the government did not back this misguided one's bill in the debate. There is an opinion held by many folks on this side of the pond that if you fail a t making a career for your self go in to politics because no formal qualifications are needed.

Oh, those wild and crazy Brits. Substitute "Canadians", "Californians", "Democrats", and on and on.

In fairness he was the Member of Parliament for a constituency in south west England where someone went a bit crackers and shot three people before turning the gun on himself (should have done it the other way around!) and the gun used just happened to be a pump action shotgun. Much was made of this fact by the media who never let the facts stand in the way of a good story. No doubt he was lobbied by poorly educated constituents and the local press so to get them off his back he proposed a motion in Parliament that had little chance of success just to make people think he had done something.
I agree with Damascus on those points. It is said that the only person to enter Parliament with the right intentions was Guy Fawkes! Lagopus.....

As if a shooter could not reload a double to continue shooting if he is the only one armed at the time of the shooting. It is not the gun but the shooter who is at fault but nut registration is frowned over here.
There are several videos of shooting a gun with a "normal" low capacity clip at the same rate as a 'large" high capacity clip. Timed video got off 30 shots, with three clips, just as fast than he did with one "large" capacity clip and as he said "large" capacity clips were more likely to not feed properly.

You are imagining that these people operate with rationality. Or care about it. They don’t. They only want to take guns away from everyone but the government. Despite the remarkable evidence that clearly shows that governments have killed the vast majority of people who have died unnatural deaths over the last 100 years. 200 million by some counts.

No doubt the Press would have hyped up the 'Pump Action Shotgun' as something akin to a weapon of mass destruction. Any shooting over here the Press insist on it being described as a 'Magnum'. I was once informed by a Member of Parliament that he had heard of very dangerous pistol rounds known as 'Wadcutters'. Where ignorance is bliss it is folly to be wise! Lagopus.....

Lagopus, about three or four years ago there was an op/ed column in the NYT by someone claiming that the "loophole" that allows muzzleloaders would soon be taken advantage of by the next mass murderer. They don't even try for the facts.
