Hard to say without seeing but if it feels normal, around 4 lbs and only occasionally feels very light I would suspect something is preventing the sear from fully seating.
Good call.
Try firing that barrel, opening the gun and closing it so that the lock recocks, then carefully remove the lock to see if the sear is
fully seated as it should be. It sounds like the problem
could be that, occasionally, the cocking mechanism for that lock isn't completely recocking. Since it only happens occasionally it could easily be that the times you've had the locks off and the sear looked fully seated, the trigger pull would have been fine that time. Fixing this is often a simple adjustment to make, by a qualified gunsmith.
I understand that if it only happens occasionally it will be hard to diagnose in the way I described. But, if it is that, it will get worse. I had a boxlock (BSS) that did just what you're describing. My double gunsmith sorted it out years ago and it's never happened again. And this gun gets shot a pretty good bit.
