Any suggestions for importing a NON- antique double shotgun from Canada? ( Ontario> Illinois)
Do I need to contact a go-between first?
Will an import agent handle needed customs and ATF forms required?
Any idea on fees ( customs/ taxes/ forms) amounts?
Suggested import agents?
Thank you!
Best Regards,
JBP

I use Borderview whenever importing or exporting.

Expect to pay around $300 plus a small percentage of value. Plus freight. To move a gun from Canada has taken as little as 5 weeks and as much as months.

Slightly new twist. I was quite recently talking to Prophet River and their FFl associate in the US. To buy a gun and import it to Canada the US-FFL dealer must purchase the gun no matter private sale, auction or whatever. You make the contact with the seller, inform them of the FFL dealer and then the FFL dealer takes over. Then in the importation to Canada the FFL dealer sells it to you and takes a commission. Since this is a US regulation I expect to import a gun to the US the FFL dealer must take ownership. Not clear on this last part so perhaps SKB can chime in again.

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
