a couple of german sxs are freshly posted on gb;

an early (pre 1913) j.p.sauer boxlock (with intercepting sears) that's not bad (except for classy recoil pad job) and priced fairly reasonably...

and an unusual "peter helbig" marked gun, with a side lever safety that i have never seen before...looks as though it was decent quality - but problems with the wood and a baboon with a screwdriver has been at it....

https://www.gunbroker.com/item/905660098

suhl proofs between 1912 and 1924, and a touch mark on front lug that i am not familiar with.

best regards,
tom

The Sauer has “over hanging sears “. Not intercepting sears. Boxlocks with intercepting sears will have a sear pin just aft of the tumbler pin.
Over hanging sears are very common on German and continental shotguns of that era.

The odd lever is probably the Pieper safety:

Looks like either the buffalo horn grip was replaced or altered or a grip safety was omitted??? Odd horn additions around the rear of the triggerguard bow.

Proofed in Suhl the final state during WWI. Belgian sourced tubes finished by either Kelber or Klett. Maybe that a Belgian >>gesteck<< was ordered and completed in Suhl.

Ah, the trademark on the aft/ rear lug is Gebrüder Merkel.

Sauer Modell Nr. 8 destined for export & with the term >>Son<< and >>Made in Prussia<< would make it an English speaking destination.

The addition to the trigger guard is an "after market" bumper to soften the blow on the finger from recoil. It would have been added by one of the owners. The safety on the Helbig is a "hammer block" safety, I believe. Safer than "trigger block.
