Probably a long shot, but oh well, might as well give it a go.
A friend is looking for a “new” forend to replace his Dads A-500R (recoil not gas) forend that is damaged beyond repair. If you have one or know where I can find one, please let me know!
Any useable condition will do as long as it’s not cracked. Can rechequer and refinish if necessary, no biggie.

Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks.

Might be cheaper and easier, not to mention more functional, to replace the 500 with an A5. Browning only cataloged the A500 for two years. Every example I have ever seen, and, it has been YEARS since I’ve seen one, was a really nice single shot.
I totally get wanting to fix up Dad’s old gun, but, do that knowing what you have isn’t all that good a gun.

I’ll keep my eyes open, anyway.

Good luck.

Best,
Ted

There's an A500-G on ebay....says gas gun only.

You might have to whittle you one.

I saw that one too, JoE. I’m not quite sure we can make a G work. I’m thinking I’ll have to convince him to send it off for a pro repair. These are proving hard to come by.

Ted,
Ya, a real A-5 would be ideal, but I don’t think his pop is interested in that. This gun has some sort of sentimental value to him and he wants to fix it and run it.
These guns are odd ducks. I thought all A-500’s were gas guns. Blew me away to see this was recoil operated. The friction set up is how shall we say…very “unique”.
He did say that the gun has been pretty reliable and has had no issues except for the massive crack in the forend.

You might try repairing it with G-flex epoxy. It was designed to repair wooden boats and I have had very good luck with it using it. The product has a flex factor as the name indicates and is quite thick as well. Good luck.

Macon Gunstocks shows a semi-inlet that needs fitting and finish for 90 bucks.
