Anybody here handled enough of these to know a good average weight for an unmodified 12 ga 37 with a 30" solid rib barrel?

6 pounds + or - an ounce or two depending on wood density.

This isn't your specific answer, but I can put one bracket on the issue by saying that my 1947 37T is 7 lbs, 7 oz. Subtract maybe 4 oz for upgraded wood, and then add it back in for the unvented rib.

The 1940 Ithaca Gun Co. catalog says about 6 3/4 pound for the solid rib 12-gauge --

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

while for the plain barrel 12-gauge they say "may be had as light as 6 1/2 pounds."

I don't know about Ithaca Model 37s, but I have a 12-gauge Remington Model 31L with a 30-inch solid rib barrel, that is very muzzle heavy. I think it would be much better balance with a 26-inch plain barrel.

The guy that's selling told me 7 3/4, which seems too heavy, and he didn't seem to be sure, or inclined to go weigh it. I'm pretty certain it's not a 6 lb gun, but figured it would be between 6 3/4 and 7 1/2, I was hoping to narrow it down a little more. +- 7 lbs is OK, 7 1/4 plus, not so much. It's the Deluxe as well, slightly larger fore end.

A 30" 37R is no six pound gun. Its actual weight is "what it weighs on the scale". Buy it, you wil love it. A 30" 37R is a scarce gun, and a great shooting gun.
