I'm fascinated by the classic Griffin and Howe sporters, especially those built on Springfield 1903 actions. Someday I hope to buy or build a rifle in that style. I know there are some G&H enthusiasts in this community. I was curious of someone could tell me what type of walnut was typically used in the classic G&H sporters. It looks like American black walnut, but I'm not an expert. I expect some could be English walnut or other types. All input is appreciated.

Griffin and Howe used different kinds of wood. I had one of their stocks in curly maple. However, I think they tended to use Imported soft-shell walnut mostly. I don't think I ever saw a black walnut stock of theirs.
