1) it looks like a beautiful action; and
2) the second leather pad looks excellent with the extension.

Thanks for showing off the work!

Brent, I buy most of my pigskin at Tandy. I have a store about 1 1/2 hours from me so its a reasonable drive. I prefer to pick out my own hides so I can avoid as many blemishes as possible and to check for stretch. Btw, a hide will generally allow just the bottom third to be used. That is unfortunate because the best looking part of the hide and blemish free is the top two thirds.

I do have a leather skive to thin the leather and I use the skive to even the thickness to about .020..... thin is good. I've tried the skive on the upper leather with limited success, it just does not stretch as much.

You may have success with your Eland if you can thin the belly part to a reasonable thickness.

Hope this helps!

Thank you Dan! Francottes are, IMO, a very underrated shotgun.

I may have to look for a skive then. Hate to do that for just one or two pads, but I would like to try this myself. The Eland has the feel of stretchiness. I think it would work. I have a Tandy about 40 minutes away, if need be.

I think your red pad may have looked a lot better if was ground down to the shape of the second one. It's just too big and curvy.

There is a place for big and curvy but that gunstock isn't one of them.
