I'm not sure this will be of interest to many but it may be to a few - so here it goes. A few years back I acquired a Francotte mid grade sidelock if there is such a thing as a mid grade Francotte. It is a wonderfully made gun and I'll leave it at that.

The gun was way to short for me even with a Pachmayr white line pad and black spacers. This all had to go hence the wood extension. The wood for the extension came from my wood box of cut off's and was the best match I had for color etc. The first pad was one that I had on hand and I thought, at the time, it would be just fine. I was wrong! It was ugly, hard, and heavy. It had to go. The second pad is from Italy and is available from various sources. I love it! It is very lite and soft, I highly recommend these pads! Anyway the photos show the before and after.

The pad is leather covered in pigskin. I got this pad from Mark Beasland (Mark's born again bird guns). Rich Cole also carries this pad the brand name is Cervelatai. It is a micro cell pad.

Well Ed, That was the length of the piece of wood..... I worked with what I had. I like leather covered pads so that is what I did. My gun my choice.

I love the pad and that's the best wood extension I've seen. What did you use for a finish?

Thanks Brent, I believe I was using Permalyn at the time I did this work. The leather covered pad was done last week in a OP work lull.

Where do you buy pigskin that thin?

I have half an acre of eland that is a beautiful maroon/brown, but it's about 0.055-0.065" thick.
