no keels strongly suggests cut barrels on fox and most other fine guns...

fox sharks no doubt have card info, if it exhists...

the bidding will tell the tale...

I'm with Stan on the chokes, the length of the chokes etc. would tell the story. One item on the barrels that I question is on the top view of the barrels I see no evidence of the concave file cuts on the top and bottom ends of the rib but the end view shows the file cuts and no keels? The the color case looks Fox to me as does the remaining overall condition. Sure, the screws have been turned but not bad and the stock length looks to be ok.

I have attended this auction many times since it is fairly local to me. They are very honest and if you ask questions they will answer to the best of their ability. They hold an auction 4 times a year with well over a 1000 guns at each. They have one guy that catalogs and takes pictures for the auction and he is one busy guy so don't expect a lengthy description of each firearm. BTW, this auction is or was attended by a lot of wealthy local farmers that have corn and soy bean money in their pockets. It is not a place to look for a bargain!

I have never owned a Fox. But if that is the way the muzzle left the factory I am more than a little surprised.

Dan Lefever would have had a man's hands cut off if he sent a gun out the door with the barrels set that way.

Did they not extend the rib (keel) over the front of the muzzle?? And WHY dont the barrels touch??

It wouldn't have left the factory without keels. That one likely has been messed with, but it also doesn't prove the barrels have been cut. They may have been, but it's not proof. Short chokes are, as is a mismatch with the order card.

The barrels on Foxes, and other doubleguns as well, don't always touch.

Its always possible the Keels fell out for some reason and voids were plugged with solder and cleaned up. I suspect that was what happened, but its order card would confirm it. They both look pretty thick so they would appear to have plenty of choke.

PS. Based on the current bid I'd say they weren't cut.

So, Fox didn't make their guns with the barrels touching? Was there a stated reason for this? Was it all, or only some? And in either case...why?

I've have and have had a bunch of Foxes. All of mine have had barrels touching at the ends. However, I have seen documented cases of 100 percent original Foxes that don't have the barrels touching.
