John, if I'm not mistaken the mullered border would hide over-runs. The checkering that Steve did is what is found on higher grade guns and only the best checkers worked on these guns and did not use a border.

That's conventional thinking aimed at amateurs who can't checker well. Certainly, a border can hide careless overruns, but that's not the purpose of a well-done border. Most of these Prussian Daly guns had a line border. Some had a slightly mullered border. Most fine British guns have beautifully done mullered borders that set off the checkering and are beautiful in themselves. I just think they add to the finished product, like a nice frame on an oil painting.
