No holes, some pits, some corrosin. I'll try get some calipers on the thickness. I was going to use magpull 16ga brass with 45grains of goex ffg and #9 lead shot. I ordered a kit from belgium and plan to copy the design. http://www.hlebooks.com/pinfire/cal16-01.htm

I'll see if can get a borescope video.

All the crowned letters are inspector's marks, with which you can not date the gun. They were re-used and the connection to a specific inspector of many has been lost.

Your smith will use a wall thickness gauge to accurately measure wall thickness, from breech to muzzle. It is very difficult to reliably get the gauge pin in the bottom of pits, so the bore scope exam, by an experienced examiner, is critical.

Curious about the double bite. Assume this was normal post 1860? Also, just how long are those barrels....they seem to go on forever.

Argo,
I believe the 'double bite' was described in Lefaucheux's original patent (5525/1833).

Interesting Steve. Yet as late as 1859, from this sketch of a Reilly, the standard British version of the Lefaucheux's gun shows a single bite. Now one must wonder if Jones didn't get his under-lever, double-bite design from ideas originally put forward by Casimir Lefaucheux?

Barrels are 29 1/4 inches. So the gun is made somewhere between 1860 and 1877?
