I was going to use magpull 16ga brass with 45grains of goex ffg and #9 lead shot. They were re-used and the connection to a specific inspector of many has been lost. Your smith will use a wall thickness gauge to accurately measure wall thickness, from breech to muzzle. It is very difficult to reliably get the gauge pin in the bottom of pits, so the bore scope exam, by an experienced examiner, is critical. https://sites.google.com/a/damascusknowledge.com/www/home

Yet as late as 1859, from this sketch of a Reilly, the standard British version of the Lefaucheux's gun shows a single bite.
