I am trying to help a former student find a Winchester Model 12 barrel for his late grandpa's 16 gauge Model 12. The barrel he has is full choke and he would like something more open for grouse/pheasants and would like to maintain the original barrel.

Is there anyone that specializes in old Model 12 parts? I know nothing about Winchester pumps.

Fairly often you see model 12 barrels for sale on EBay. Right now there are several 16 barrels for sale there. Better yet there is one complete barrel with mag. assembly, 16 ga. with solid rib. Once fit to his gun it would be a great option with what looks to be a mod barrel.

Yes, I saw those and sent them to him, but thought there might be someone that specializes in these things.

Are model 12 barrels easily swapped out like an 870?

No, it's a major PITA.

Most guys back in the day who had two barrels had two complete front ends. It's really the only way to go.

Except of course Briley... you don't want to hear that but it's really the best option or just have it honed to about .012" and go shoot it.

NOT ONE BIT- They are a rpa-- and if this full choked M12 was his Grandpa's-- good chances are that it is a 2&9/16" chambered gun-besides the sn, another clue would: Is it a Model 1912, or a Model 12-the M1912 designation would mean for sure the shorter chamber, in 1919 WRA dropped the 19 from the roll stamp- hence- Model 12- same exact gun.

I'd have a set of Briley chokes fitted by Briley, and have them check the chambering at the same time--if I was this gent. waay cheaper aND FAR LESS HASSLE TOO- rwtf
