Hey Brother pipeliner-- forgive my intrusive ??- but for what reason(s) would you want to do this? I've only shot 2 Merkels in the past 40 years that I can recall- both were top shelf double guns- flawless in wood to metal, balance points- If only they didn't have the cheekpiece Continental buttstocks, and were in 16 gauge-- RWTF

With a cross bolt there is a connection from the top lever to the cross bolt. In order to disassemble that system the connector spindle from the bolt is inserted from the bottom through the bolt and up into the top lever. You can't remove the top lever just by removing the top lever screw.
