Cape gun. The seller thought this was German. The rib text suggests, and proof marks verify, it's Belgian. But it's a very good quality gun. Near as I can tell from proofs, it was made between 1853 and 1870. It was barely shot and the bores are still quite bright once I removed some grime at the muzzles. So I'm deducing either it was pricey enough to be a collectible, or made right at the end of the era as cartridge firearms came along and sat on a shelf or a wall and never saw much action.

I can't find anything to identify a maker, only proof and inspector marks.

Does it look familiar to anyone?

18 gauge next to a nominal .40 cal rifle that takes a patched .38 bullet perfectly. Metric nipples. 31" barrels.

Very nice indeed, with stepped locks with a single set trigger for the right tube. Looks as if the tubes passed proof @ 10.2mm & 16.2mm. What type rifling might it have?

Cheers,

I love the locks. That step really sets it apart from everything else.

I'd be interested to know how fast the rifling twist is.

8 grooves, classically European, seems to be about one full turn for the length. I'll try to estimate closer.
