I recently purchased a Purdey hammer gun made in 1869. I've attempted to trace its history and have found a lot of information about its original owner, Walter Winans. A sister gun owned by the Winans family won the 1908 Olympic double deer shoot event. Frank Findlow published an article about this Purdey rifle in the Double Gun Journal several years back. I thought Mr. Findlow might have some information on the history of my Purdey shotgun after it came to the United States. If anyone knows how to contact Dr. Findlow by a phone number or email I would appreciate it if you would send this infomation to me. I believe Dr. Findlow lived in California.

There's a tremendous amount of information on Winans available on the web. He authored seven books on shooting and owned a number of Rigby rifles.

My treasured copy of "The Art of Revolver Shooting" by Walter Winans is annotated on the inside front hard cover as follows;
"A very interesting article on Walter and his father William Lewis Winans and their engineering/railway building company can be found in Double Gun Journal, Summer 2003 issue, Page 112."
