Fits the definition and picture on the Howell site. Just curious what other thought.

Check out Colerain muzzle loading rifle barrels for a good profile
of a swamped barrel. I would think a swamped SXS rib is similar in profile.

Nope. The idea is the rib is removed from view when sighting. The bead is visible, the rib, no.
Look at the picture I posted. The rib is invisible when the gun is in use. If I had a buck for every time a guy called a concave rib a swamped rib, I could retire.
They are different as night and day.

OK....got tt....sort of. No I don't. What's the difference between a swamped rib...which every French gun seems to advertise...and a tapered concave rib. Please....a simple photo primer. Many thanks and Merci.

Concave left to right? Or
Concave front to back (muzzle to breech)

I don't think the usage of the term "swamped" is consistent when referring to shotguns and especially ribs. Nor, perhaps, is the term "concave" always unambiguous.

Here is a seller who uses the phrase "swamped rib" in connection with a Darne. You can decide whether he meant swamped left to right or muzzle to breech.

My Darne is swamped and concave in both directions. A handy pair of Ithaca/SKB 100s shows one of them to be strongly swamped from muzzle to breech, but the other flat. My Cashmore is also swamped, bow to stern as well as port to starboard.

Interestingly, all but one of the guns that were handy this morning have swamped barrels. That includes the two Ithaca/SKBs, OShatz, and Darne. The Cashmore barrel was not swamped at all.
