Hello everyone. Last year I picked up a really interesting gun that I would love to learn more about. It is a CSMC Inverness with stunning Turkish walnut and a Boss style quarter rib... oh, and it is Serial# I-002. I am assuming that CSMC keeps the #1 gun which makes this one really special. I know this was a pre-production prototype and was displayed at 2012 Shot Show and the 2012 Side by Side. CSMC was apparently planning to make the Boss rib an option but it never was offered. I have heard of at least one other Inverness that was made with the Boss style quarter rib (serial number as in the 270's I think). I'm really just looking for more info on it - did you happen to see it while it was being shown around, did you handle it?
@Bill Murphy from the Shooting Sportsman's forum apparently ordered/received a similar Inverness and handled mine in 2012. I'd love to chat with him but I have lost my login to that forum...

Here is a pic of my gun after a limit taken on Indiana dove last season.

and here are a few detailing the Boss style rib:

Great pic, RDD. As a lifelong dove shooter I can well appreciate your success with the gun. Sorry I can't offer any helpful information on the specific gun, but thanks for posting.

I looked at Tony's display gun at the Southern. I just had to have that Boss rib, so I talked The Lovely Linda into ordering one for herself since I had promised "no more shotguns" not long before. Tony returned a favor Linda had done for him and built an outrageous gun for her. Full tang, Woodward grip with cap, the nicest leather covered pad I have ever seen, super fancy English walnut, 30" barrels. They were not happy to build another Boss rib, but I insisted. I don't know anything about the display gun except that I liked it a lot.

Thanks for the info. I wonder why the Boss quarter rib is so difficult/expensive/other of an option? This gun has made me a fan and I can't figure out why other manufacturers don't offer it.

Specialised ribless woodcock OUs are made by several makers like Franchi, Verney Carron and others. They are short barreled and that probably keeps them from becoming popular in the US.

As for the expense. Some makers seem to charge more for what they do not install. The pics show a rounded end on the monobloc rib section and a ramp on the muzzle. How that coudl cost more than a full laid top rib is a puzzle.

Because it's not a standard production build, so it's a one off which mean a lot more labor to make, i.e. semi custom build.

Does anyone know who might offer this service as an aftermarket modification? I have a project gun or two that I might be interested in removing the vent rib.

Shortly after I received my wife's gun in the mail, I noticed an internet mention of the ribless Perazzi. Oh, well. By the way, Linda's Inverness is serial number I-00274.
