At one time, I felt that the LACA was a helpful and informative resource. As time went on, I found it to be a waste of time and money. The current leadership has been running things for far too long. And like most collectors organizations, I believe they are a vehicle for a few select insiders to get first dibs at collectible guns that surface when inquiries are made by uninformed heirs etc. I've gotten more good information about Lefever guns right here, and from other sources. There is a lot of obvious misinformation about Lefever guns that has been repeated for decades, partly due to a lack of surviving factory records. I found LACA to be almost useless to correct that unfortunate situation. Find a Double Gun Journal index and reader and use your money to buy back issues containing Lefever articles, and you'll get much more for your money. Just my opinion.

Jtplumb, I pretty strongly disagree with Keiths comments above. I have had nothing but positive experiences with the Lefever guys. Dont hesitate to reach out.

So how about telling Jtplumb about the not-so-democratic nominating and voting process for officers or principals of the Lefever Arms Collectors Assn. Unless much has changed... this should really be good!

Then tell us what a great value he will get from a newsletter that predominantly featured photos of the President (or "responsible person") for Life, shooting clays or posing behind Lefever tables at gun shows or shooting events. Sorry... but as time went on, I just didn't see much value in subsidizing someone else's self importance... especially considering that I got more solid information from other sources for less cost. It wasn't always like that. Has the newsletter ever featured an article or pics of the Lefever drilling that sold on Gunbroker several years ago? That glaring omission kinda told me this wasn't much of a collectors resource. My experiences and impressions were pretty much mirrored in some private discussions with some advanced Lefever collectors and independent researchers who were frustrated with attempts at submissions to the newsletter. I'm not alone in my opinions. At one time, if you Googled "Lefever Collectors", there were several competing websites. I even considered starting my own so I could pick some nice plums.

I did miss the article on the drilling in the newsletter. It hadn't appeared for a long time after it sold on Gunbroker, or before I quit LACA a few years ago. I quit without any comment whatsoever until I heard a "pig singing", so you have that part right.

I also missed any answers from you about the other things I mentioned. They probably aren't things that any thinking prospective Lefever collector would care about anyway. I suppose you have your reasons for defending the status quo.
