Is anyone making a 20ga/22rf over/under similar to the old Stevens 410/22? Specifically looking for a smooth bore .22, but that could be post-purchased arranged.

Did anyone ever make such a gun? I know Savage made 20 ga x .222, but not .22 rimfire to the best of my limited knowledge on these.

A friend is looking for a collecting gun - bird collecting, not gun collecting.

What would really be useful would be nice, light, 16 double with a .22 Hornet underneath. If only I were King!

This would be strictly a bird collecting gun, so no need for a .22 rifle of any sort, but .22 shotshell, yes. Light would be another factor.

skeetx, Yes, that that is probably right in line with what I was thinking of. I didn't realize they came in 20 gauge. I once owned a 410 version from Stevens.

The side by with adapter is definitely an option, but it would have to be a twin trigger gun. Inertial triggers would not set the second barrel. Though I'm not sure that they would ever be fired in rapid succession, so that may be moot too.

Anyway, thanks for those. Now I know what to look for.

Brent,
He might check with Simpson Ltd. for a 9mm rimfire, they have had several single shots, they may have one of the SxS combos with the 6mm Flobert on the rifle side. The 6mm is so close to 22 that most people just shoot 22 CB or Shorts. Mine will take 22 LR also, so 22 shot is a possibility in it.

.22 birdshot cartridges are virtually ineffective at anything over 10 yards or so and even at that I would never shoot at a game bird with them.

Yes, DAM16. I fully realize that, and that is why I said this is a collecting gun. She needs a dickie bird and lbj gun suitable for 15 ft, not 15 yards.

Just curious, but how will the 20 ga. be utilized in collecting? Something like 9s at a longer distance? Don't know anything about collecting bird specimens for preservation.

Chiappa makes a 22lr/shotgun O/U.

https://www.chiappafirearms.com/category.php?id=5

There are quite a number of of Savage 24's available in that combination also.

There are a number of old German drillings available in 16/16/22H or 16/16/222 Rem(easily loaded down to Hornet velocities). I hunt coyotes with combo in 12ga/5.6x50R and 12ga/22 Savage Highpower(5.6x52R) and a drilling in 16ga/16ga/6.5x5R Sauer. These are perfect for harvesting coyotes in the thicker brush where you might not see one until he is at your shoelace or standing on the hill across the valley and not have to pack two guns.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.
