I sold a 28ga SxS Stoeger made in Spain to a good friend. The model is a Zepher, and the stirrup in the left lock between the tumbler and main spring broke. Well, you know how it goes - you owned it, you'll always own it [ or be responsible for it ]. He has no mechanical ability. I'm not going to try and make one of those little buggers. At 72 my eyes and hands just don't do what they use to. Anyone have any ideas on how to replace it ? Thanks for any help. Paul

I had a stirrup break in my old J P Clabrough, probably about 40 years ago. I had no idea what it might cost to get one made, obviously, no parts were readily available, So I just made it myself. It's still in there & still a-working. I don't really know how the original was made, but I made mine in three pieces. I had a piece of spring steel of proper thickness & measured the size & spacing of the pins & drilled hole for the pins. I don't recall now if I pressed or soldered the pins in but they're still there whichever it was. I finish filed it to shape to match the original.

YES, but could you do it with 72 year old eyes and fingers  I have even been sending some of my work out as my strength is having a tough time with springs and things. Maybe Kyrie will know of a possible source ?

It would take me longer now than it did 40 odd years ago, but I'm 81, have a little finger on my left hand I cannot straighten from where I jammed it in a fall while on Chemo about 18 months ago. BUT, yes if I really needed it I could still make a small part like that stirrup. It wasn't that hard a job.

I would try Cole Haugh in Indiana. He's a very competent Spanish gun smith and might be able to fix it for you. He's quick and a straight shooter.

old time gunsmiths who can copy broken small parts are scarce these days...
two younger guys who may be able to help are gunter pfrommer in central va and bill schwarz in north ga...
