Has anyone tried 'em yet?

https://www.federalpremium.com/products/shotshell/federal-target/shorty-shotshells/sh129-8

The #8 load clocks 15/16 oz load @ 1145fps, which is pretty close to standard RST load.

MSRP is $5.95/10, which is about equivalent to RST, but the list price would likely be better. More importantly, availability should be better. (In the People's Republic of New York we are no longer permitted by our wise and exhaulted leaders to buy ammunition over the internet.)

Not that I'm bailing on RST...just wondering.

No, and probably will not at about $15.00 per box of 25

Texas has the right to order over the internet and dang
proud of it.

Is there a reason they are that short? Nice to have options for short chambered guns, just not sure why they are making them in that size.

Because you can get a whole lot of them in an extended magazine pump gun for home defense?

I think Nudge has a good point that the street price will likely be quite a bit less than the MSRP. I wonder if the length was determined partly by being a rebranded import. I wouldn't mind seeing a run of #7 shot. Thanks for the link, I wasn't aware of it.

Maybe they think they have better appeal to plinkers by making them smaller...? There is a case to be made about lugging them as you walk a clays course, or even for upland hunting.

I read in a review that people were comparing these to a product Aguila had offered first. I had never even heard of those...perhaps some in the crowd have used them?

RST 2" shells are $14/25, hardly equivalent pricing.

And, unless you live in New York City, Buffalo, or Rochester, we can again buy ammo through the mail, it's been over a year now. Some suppliers are still being pricks about it but most are again shipping.

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

Recoil Rob,

To your two points...

Point 1.

As my 7th grade math equation shows, $14/25 is actually almost exactly the same as $5.95/10.
(25/10=2.5, 2.5*5.95=14.88)
And that's $14.88/25 MSRP, which will have a considerably lower list price, and likely better availability.

Point 2.

Unless I have completely missed it, the NYSAFE requirement for online buyers to be either "registered commercial buyers" or possess an FFL, is still in force since Jan of 2014. The only part which has been abandoned, under agreement, is the background check provision, because the State Police asserted that the creation and maintainence of such a database was unworkable.

But the law, as it was written banning online sales of ammo shipped direct to consumer, is STILL IN FORCE.

And while there may be a handful of out-of-state sellers who are still willing to ship directly to NY consumers, taking refuge in the laws of their OWN state...that offers you ZERO legal cover as a NYS resident.

The only LEGAL way to purchase ammo online as a retail consumer, under NYS law since 1/15/2014, is to have it shipped to an FFL.

BTW, this smells nothing like "Shall not be infringed."
