I'd sure appreciate if you can share some loads for 1oz 16 ga.. any 2 1/2" loads?

I shoot 1 oz RST #5s at wild pheasants in my vintage 16s and get very clean kills.. Last fall in 3 days of hunting in South Dakota, we lost only one bird using that load.

You should look at 16ga.com and the Yahoo 16 gauge group for lighter 16 gauge loads and 2 1/2 inch loads.
BPI also has some 2 1/2 inch loads for 16 gauge.

I've killed turkeys with rst 5's in 16, 12 and 10. Stoned them all. I imagine they would be hell on a pheasant

When buying late season pheasant loads this year, I was unable to find any really heavy 16 gauge shells.

There is a Fiocchi 16 gauge, 2 3/4", 1 3/8 ounce load at 1310 fps. It is loaded in 5s and 6s. The only place online I've seen to sell them is Lion Country Supply.

Now that, my brothers, is a true magnum load.

With almost certainty, that's a typo on Lion Country's website. Fiocchi's 16ga GP load is 1 1/8oz at 1310.

That would explain my surprise when I saw it listed, and no other retailer had it.

I will stick with the 12 gauge, 3", 1 3/4 ounce load.

I realize I started this thread with mention of a 1 3/8oz hand-load by Don Zutz @ about 1215 fps. My own personal beliefs are that for anything over 1 1/8oz one is better off with a 12 gauge. I have a couple of 16s which weigh in at 6 3/4 lbs, that is to me about the max for a 16, would prefer them a bit lighter. For 1 3/8oz @ 1300+ fps one needs a gun up around 7 lbs, don't want a 16 that heavy, spoils the whole reason for the smaller gauge. I'm not much of a believer in "Magnumizing" the small gauges, when I need more shot I want a bigger hole down the barrel.

That would be an excellent load for the Browning BPS 16 gauge, which is built on a modified 20 frame but still towards the heavy end of the spectrum. I suppose fine for some of the Remington 16s which were built on 12 gauge frames.

Would exceed the proof of many 16 gauge game guns (including mine).

Ive no experience with the Winchester M21 but perhaps that would have been a good strong 16 load for open water ducks, late season pheasants, turkey, and other birds where youre waiting a long time and only taking a limited amount of shots per day.

I really like their regular 2 3/4" green shells
