This describes my situation, except that my floaters don't seem to cause me any actual vision problems .

Eye doc told me the same thing last month. None in one eye and very small amount in the other. He told my wife she can have surgery on both hers at any time. She wants to get it done after the holiday season.

Thanks everyone for the great info. Im pretty well convinced the monofocal lens set for far distance is the way to go.

Best wishes, buzz. From what I've heard you will be amazed afterwards.

I had cataract surgery about 5 years ago; and after being near-sighted and dealing with stigmatisms since my youth, was absolutely thrilled with the results. I selected implants designed for distance vision and wear bi-focals for reading, but can see fine otherwise without glasses or contacts. For me personally, the results of my cataract surgery was miraculous; the world is so much brighter and clearer nowadays than I could ever remember beforehand. I elected to have my left eye done first and my right dominate eye done a week later; both procedures took about 15 minutes, and I could see the difference as soon as the initial dressing was removed. I wish you the best.

Buzz, I was told I had cataracts developing but that surgery wouldn't be needed soon. Hoping for the best for you. Having worn readers for decades, I think mono would be the best for me as well. Last time my vision was quantified it was 20-15. Gil

Buzz,
I have worn glasses since 11 years old for extreme nearsightedness and bifocals for 20 years; so when I had cataract surgery, rather than separate reading glasses and safety glasses, I had lenses installed into my existing frames ground only for reading and to correct a small astigmatism( not required but a little bothersome). I had them made as safety lenses( as before), so if I wear them and carry "clip on" sun glasses( you will have to wear "Shades" outside) my situation is pretty much what I have been used to for the last 62 years, except I can see at distance with out glasses, but can't read my watch.

I went through this about a year ago.

There are multi-focal lenses and accommodating lenses. The multi-focal jobs bring a lot of compromise with them and are, in my opinion, the least preferable solution. The accommodating lenses allow the muscles in your eye to change the shape of the soft lens implant and thus mimic a natural eye's function. The knock on the accommodating lenses is that the range of focal length that they deliver from patient to patient is highly variable, but I've not heard anyone say they flat out don't work.

In my case I let the ophthalmologist talk me out of an accommodating lens, then he missed the calculations and overcorrected. I might have been able to salvage a bit more usable vision with an accommodating lens. Water under the bridge now.

I'm seeing my opthalmologist this afternoon for a followup on an eye injury, so I'll ask him about the lenses.

All of us age at some rate and should make periodic visits to your Doctor to monitor your eyes for glaucoma. Unchecked it can sneak up on you and destroy what vision you have
(I realize that is is OT for the subject but wanted to pass along the thought)
