Once again Mike (Wingshooter16) and I are in the Sandhills chasing sharp tails. Weather is perfect and birds are here. Today is our first day and Im posting from the crest of a sandhill to get reception. Birds are in the bag and pics to follow.

Mike thoughtfully bought a new GPS to help with his propensity for getting lost. In classic fashion he lost the new GPS within 2 hours of hitting the fields.

As usual not another soul besides Mike and I.

Wish you were here. laugh

Theres an app for that. GPS not your partner., mike. Well there might be an app for him as well. Better not go there. We all wish we were there or somewhere else hunting.

Canvasback, I envy your being there. Long, well, many dogs ago, we hunted around Arthur. So fun for us, but the cacti were so bad, we had to put the dogs up. Found a rancher who had "fighting chickens" and we took some home. No one ever had a real fighting chicken event where we were in Iowa, but it was fun to think about. Mostly, in the Sand Hills, we hunted long and hard, but really should have saved our energy and just hid in the standing corn at dusk when the sharptails and prairie chickens came it in the same groups. Lots of fun, Daryl

How time flies.
It's probably been 15 years since I hunted with Mike in the Sandhills. Lots of miles and water under the bridge since then.

I am in Yorkshire shooting this week.

Next week, my friend Danny and an acquaintance of his will be in Valentine. He is working a 4mos Vizla pup.
Maybe you'll cross paths.

Would it help if you leashed Mike, perhaps a long lead, like a check cord? Used in conjunction with a good shock collar, you should be able to keep a handle on him.
Good luck you guys, sounds like fun.

Best,
Ted

Its hard to mistake a four month old Viszla pup and I think the other fellow is training a Griffon.
They are new to the Sandhills, so help them out if you can.
They are good dudes.

I stuck shooting here at the castle for a while yet.

Love Nebraska. Grew up in Lincoln, and spent time out west with family every year in Sargent, Gordon, Chadron, etc. My kin in Gordon have a place for guided hunts of all kinds called Horse Thief Cave Ranch. Look them up if you're in the area. They've got more turkey's running around out there than one could scarce believe.

Just before 11:00 and cell reception has appeared again. Overcast today with strong winds. First time in 3 years it hasnt been sunny. No birds yet.

Darryl, hard work is right. Gives my legs as good a workout as the get all year.

CZ, enjoy Yorkshire. Mike had mentioned hunting here with you some time ago. It was he and Steve Voss who introduced me to the Sandhills. Eat some pudding.

Ted, a check cord is a hell of an idea. He really is hopeless, directionally. At least he knows it. laugh

Bob, well be here. If you feel like meeting up give us a PM and well figure out how to connect.

James,
Just a check cord wont allow for the level of correction Im guessing you need. The E collar should be used in conjunction with the check cord. It will be the most humane method.

Good luck. Hunting, I mean.

Best,
Ted
