The Model 50 might be an interesting design and beautifully made, but they sure seem very butt heavy and poorly balanced. Maybe thats why they didnt sell so great and used ones are fairly inexpensive now....

2-piper. No, it was a Rem. Sportsman to be exact with ugly engraving (most is).

HoJo, you disappoint me. I thought you couldn't read what I write. Of well.
P.S. the green decoy is WAY onerous your head.

SJones - either you got ripped on the price or a Polychoke is a value added feature on an M11...

When mine wasn't jamming, it was going full auto.

Ugh.

Ive owned my 16 gauge Remmy Mod. 11 for 18 years now. Its a 1934 gun, looks exactly like a A-5, sans mag cutoff. Ive shot Chukars (real ones, not preserve birds), pheasants, quail, sharptails, ptarmigan ducks, and even a few geese. Thing is dead nuts reliable and always has been. You just cant be an ignoramus when you own a A-5 or Mod. 11. Do your due diligence and learn how to properly use & maintain them. If your gun isnt functioning properly, get it competently repaired or trash it. And I paid $250 for my Mod. 11 too, it looks damn near brand new and it was well cared for. Both of my sons have shot birds and clays with it, and my 72 year old dad and my 74 year old Uncle have both killed sharptails with this gun. It works just like JMB intended it to... if you do your part.

So, who believes it handles in an inferior way to a A5?

Still waiting.

Well, I for one sure as hell dont. Ive owned 4 A-5s and the 1 Model 11. No difference in the handling between the two 16s.
I forgot to add that my A-5 light 12 was an absolutely, totally reliable waterfowl gun for the 5 years I owned it. I took 100s of Ducks with that gun. It never once failed to operate. That gun was hunted on the Platte River almost exclusively, anyone whos hunted that water knows the elements that are involved. Dead reliable.

Here in the part of GA where I was raised owning a A5 was a status symbol. There were a few, but mostly owned by gunners that were at least financially secure. Owning one was on the verge of being ostentatious. It was just the times, and the people. Not a judgement on the gun by any means.

They are still held in high regard by most people here, but you don't see many in the field. Most people now who shoot autoloaders prefer a gas gun or a Benelli. In the dove shooting crowd I run with, probably 80% shoot autoloaders. Maybe another 20% have O/Us, and usually I'm the sole one with a S x S.

For reference, I shot the M11 for a winter on the Kaw River (aka Kansas River) around Lecompton KS. Same basic environment. Blowing sand, some mud. Lots of ice and snow. It was not reliable. My 870 was and so was the '97 Winchester, but not the M11.

From how you describe it, your Mod 11 was unreliable because it was probably broken, improperly maintained or just plain worn out. Thats not the guns fault. Thats an owner issue. Someone, at sometime in its life fd with it and destroyed it.

I'm sure there is more to it than Brent is letting on....the A5 design is quite imitating to a gun Tinkerer.

I can relate to that. Here in mid Mississippi having an A5 would have been better than having a Purdey because no one would have known what the Purdey was. Now its all plastic cammo guns and Benelli is king.
