This past weekend, I went out and shot a round of Sporting clays. I brought two guns and needed 2 boxes of shells for my little 1960 Remington 11-48. So I picked up 2.5 inch 1/2 oz load of 7.5. The first two shots went off well and no malfunctions, the 3rd shot, the brass pulled off the end of the shell and left the plastic hall in the chamber. This happens 3 more times from that box with 2 shells not ejecting. The second box worked fine no malfunctions I have never shot Fiocchi shells before and I don't know what to think of them. I have never had a shell come apart into two pices before. Anyone else experience this type of malfunction with Fiocchi shells?

Never had any problem with Fiocchis in any gauge. Sorry you did. Stuff happens occasionally, and bad stuff slips through. But, as Stallones suggested, it could've been a gun issue that resolved itself temporarily. (???)
Actually, the only brand of shell I ever had any issues with was B & Ps. I get more misfires with them than all the other brands combined, in any 12 ga. gun I try them in. I'd love to be able to use the CompOnes in some of my older guns, but I can't find a gun that will fire them reliably.

Maybe just a bad lot? Id try some more. B & P are my favorite shells, but last I checked and with a price increase, the sporting clays 1200 FPS are about $9/box. Priced me right out of their market. Im not going to pay that. It was painful enough at $7 when my buddies were shooting $5/box stuff.
Socialism is almost the worst.

Something similar with Fiocchi but going back to the early 1970's was that I found that when I used them in a Franchi semi auto I had at the time it had an annoying habit with the extractor nicking the rim of the cartridge leaving it in the chamber and then feeding another one behind and jamming things up. Very annoying! Other stuff in the Franchi was o.k. I have used modern Fiocchi in a Hatsan semi auto and it's fine. If the heads were coming off I suspect a bad batch of ammo but one that would only really show itself in a semi auto with is fast ejection system. Lagopus.....

I've seen this happen with RST 16 gauge shells in a double this past year at the Southern Side by Side event

It sounds like a few bad apples. Maybe something got in the machine for a few strokes.
What holds the plastic body to the metal base? Press fit? Basewad?
So many guns, so little time!

Were the RST shells Fiocchi hulls?

I have had that exact problem with .410 Federal hulls, that I cut off from 3" for reloading. The plastic is difficult to get out without a boresnake or cleaning rod. Just happened often enough to make me decide those hulls aren't worth reloading.

I mark it up as a couple bad shells. For the couple of shells that did not extract the recoil and sound was light. As stated, it was only from one box. First impressions are lasting. I'll stick with my AAs which by the way ran flawlessly.
