Owenjj3, Yes a grip safety. Interestingly it is a later addition, I guess in the late 1880's, perhaps when the locks were converted to rebounding.
Annoyingly, the grip safety, although beautifully built is not fully operational: if the locks are un-cocked after cocking (without firing), the trigger anti-rattle spring effectively deactivates the grip safety by moving the triggers up to rest on the sear tails. To reliably reset the grip safety, the triggers have to actively pulled forward to their most forward position. I tried for days to regulate the blasted thing, only to realise it was a subtle fault in the geometry!
