Had a bit of time at the end of a very hot day in the workshop so fitted labels to a couple of relined cases that had been waiting for a final detail or two.
The case pictured is an old trunk-style leather & brass which I have lined to take the 1866-67 RUL Stephen Grant hammergun that I have.
It was a bit of a challenge as barrels and action could not share the same level and neither could the action go vertical as in a double motor case. Eventually I set upon making a hollow box section support at each end to support the barrels just below the lid whilst the stock & action rest in block-work at the bottom.
The label is a digital repro of an original 1/2 size label that I found in another small case. Oil bottle is fitted in its own compartment under the LH lid and antique 2p ebony and brass cleaning rod is captive in its own blocking and a slot in the LH box section.

Only the 40th that Grant made after setting up on his own, the gun is lovely with great engraving and the rib address marked as '67 1/2' rather than the usual '67a'!

Toby,
Fantastic craftsmanship on that case, and really enhances that lovely Grant.

Toby, I would like to see what accessories would have been cased with a Grant like this.

Mike, Who knows?! I went with a classic 2 part E&B rod and a Hawksley double top pewter OB. Fashions were changing so fast in the start of the CF era that I doubt there is a 'right or wrong'.

Toby, that is beautiful. Thanks for posting. Do I detect a grip safety? A real survivor.

The Grant sidelever pigeon gun Toby had at the Spring Southern this year was an eye grabber for sure. Beautiful gun. I hope someone bought it and is enjoying shooting it. Was a very fair price too.

Owenjj3, Yes a grip safety. Interestingly it is a later addition, I guess in the late 1880's, perhaps when the locks were converted to rebounding.
Annoyingly, the grip safety, although beautifully built is not fully operational: if the locks are un-cocked after cocking (without firing), the trigger anti-rattle spring effectively deactivates the grip safety by moving the triggers up to rest on the sear tails. To reliably reset the grip safety, the triggers have to actively pulled forward to their most forward position. I tried for days to regulate the blasted thing, only to realise it was a subtle fault in the geometry!
And yes, Eeb, the sidelever found a good home.
