Thanks guys. I went back re-read the USPS regs and as some of you mentioned they don't seem to require me to reveal the contents of a package. Silence is golden I would say.

Any common carrier reserves the right to inspect packages. They dont do it often but with the widespread use of lithium batteries and associated accidents you will see more inspection.

USPS uses private Trucks Airplanes and Trains who require inspection routines. That questions you go through at the counter are part of it, random physical inspection another part. All I do is answer the questions dont offer any other information. However if they want to inspect its allow or dont ship.

No. It's not common. In fact, in my experience, it would be highly unusual. The counter guys are busy. They also don't want to make extra work for themselves. I'd say the chances of them wanting to open your package are somewhere between snowball's chance in hell and none.

Thats because you live in McLean, ground zero for the Northern Va/DC Swamp. When I bring my long box to the postmistress she knows exactly what it is and takes special care with it. No problems. Our rural post office is so small you cant swing a dead cat in it.

eeb, you got it. Some had a cow when a concern opened a small gun shop in McLean a few years ago...."it's 600 yards from an elementary school!!!" etc. etc.

For the past five years, or so, I have used the USPS website and printed my own labels. I have insured packages for $5,000.00 and never had to fill in a blank, telling what was in the box. I can hand it to my mail carrier, or, drop it off at the post office.

My advise, be polite, answer the required questions dont mis represent the contents if asked. If refused legal firearm acceptance file a formal complaint, dont argue with the counter clerk.

Inspections of packages in transit are both random and when suspicion is raised.
