Be safe this spring....watch out for the mOrons crawling/walking around with realistic gobbler dA'coys....

Try not to shoot them.

Gonna be a sad day to put your foot on another hunters neck....

Here's an interesting article turkey hunting being the most dangerous sport....I predict we will see an increase in shooting accidents in the next few years.

http://news.psu.edu/story/211397/2005/03...ing-most-deadly

Because they are mentally challenged these same mOrons most likely will have their guns stuffed with TSS fAiry dust sized shot...

Should you get shot with such a mass of these tiny pellets there won't be much chance of recovery.

www.wideopenspaces.com/hunting-accident-kansas-turkey-hunters-shot-while-behind-a-turkey-fan/ Last spring in Kansas....if they had been shot with TSS fAiry dust sized shot they most likely would be blind.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=4796252&page=1 Sad...father shot his son.

From the above article....them Minnesota'ians are some shoot'n sum beeches

" The boy's death is one of at least three fatalities already reported in this spring's turkey hunting season -- it's a number that often exceeds the total annual U.S. turkey-hunting related fatalities.

In West Virginia, authorities have charged a 19-year-old with misdemeanor negligence after he fatally shot a 16-year-old he mistook for a turkey during a hunt last week. The hunter could face additional charges.

On Sunday morning, a Kentucky father mistook his 14-year-old son for a game bird in what police for now have called a tragic accident."

Be safe...

As to the Minnesota story, it also doesn't help to be both drunk and high at the same time while hunting. I remember that incident well. So utterly senseless and preventable, as are all hunting "accidents".

No wonder Minnesota authorities charged him. Good. He can think about his son sitting in a jail cell when he's good and sober.

It's still a sad tragedy...drunk or sober.

I've never crawled on a turkey when I could crawl...

A few years ago a buddy of mine was hunting Chickasaw NWR just north of Memphis on the Mississippi river. At one time one of the prettiest set of woods on the river...before Anderson Tully sold it to the Feds they cut it to death. It's been a few years and it's starting to recover...in places its thick with knee high vegetation in other places it's like a jungle.

My buddy a pretty skilled turkey hunter had been calling to the gobbler for quite some time...last time he gobbled he was pretty close...my buddy said he saw some movement in the knee high cover got his gun ready and a short time later saw a man raise his head up and look around...my buddy spoke to the gent and the guy stood up.

My buddy asked him what are you doing crawling around....the guy explained that he had been chasing/crawling on the turkey all morning.

Lucky for both no one was shot.

TSS may indeed result in more people dying in accidental shootings. The 9s are gonna penetrate about like lead 4s, but there will be more of them, and they will make a smaller wound channel. I would think they would probably be a wash compared to lead #4 as far as lethality to a human.

But the TSS #7 could certainly kill people at a much higher rate than any turkey load used before. I think it would be a good idea to make #8 the largest legal size for it. There is no excuse for mistaking someone for a turkey and shooting them, but idiots will be idiots.

I suspect Federal is gonna eventually face a lawsuit for selling these shells in #7. Someone is going to wind up dead when they would have survived if shot with any other turkey load.

I once had a guy crawl up on me when working a turkey on the Coosa WMA. And when I yelled at him he refused to acknowledge me and set up on the turkey. I let him have the spot, but it was unnerving.

The breeder that I got my Draht from was shot and almost died.
The closest I ever came to having a hunting accident was one time I considered shooting my brothers decoy. I didn't, but considered it, they can be convincing.

In Ontario for roughly the first 20 plus years turkey licences were offered, 1995 until last year, one had to take a completely separate course to cover turkey hunting. It was a weekend long affair of lectures and tests. The prime motivation was to highlight the potential danger, especially by imitating behavior, appearance or calling of a male turkey.

I believe last year they folded it into the regular hunting safety course all new hunters must pass.

My neighbor had a game warden sneak up on him carrying a white ticket pad about waist high in his hand. The game warden nearly bled out before my neighbor could get him to meet the ambulance coming from town. Scary stuff!...Geo

Neighbor was tried and acquitted.
