In reading articles on the topic of vintage double exposed hammer shotguns I came across a Sporting Classics article: The Last of the Great Hammerguns.

The article discussed the evolution of the Remington shotguns through the last model 1889. One of the features of this model was the low profile almost circular hammers. In attempting to date a particular gun are these type of hammers typical of late 1880 guns?

Hunter Arms hammer styles also evolved; courtesy of David Williamson

Similar to the Remington Model of 1889

If your question is the DOM of a specific 1889, post the SN and Researcher would likely have the answer.

If that photo would have been posted a year ago, I would of had Bachelder have someone to do some engraving on my 89 that he's restoring. Remingtons hammer guns had different hammers with each new model produced. I have a couple of 73's where the hammers are " rabbit ears, " or sticking almost straight up. My 82 isn't half bad, and the 89 looks the best in my opinion.

Julia's sold the best of them when our friend Andy Anderson passed away. Andy's collection of all seven grades of Model 1889s and more of his Remington doubles were on display in the museum at the factory in Ilion for some time.

There are some of the basic (No. 1, 2 and 3) Model 1889s and some earlier models on Guns International.

Definitely great looking shotguns. I enjoyed reading the Michael McIntosh article featuring The Remington's, especially the 1889 versions.
