While recovering from a between the Holidays hospital stay I treated myself to a present. Ordered from Jeff's Outfitters his new canvas "Compact SXS 2 barrel case". case accessories: 2 pcs rosewood cleaning rod, brown leather accessory pouch, bore brush and split jag, chamber brush and cap with rosewood handle, nickel oil pot and nickel snap caps. It's a 30 inch barrel case so I cut the covered wood piece included to take up the space in the barrel compartments to prevent shifting of the 28 inch barrels and recovered with the extra material included. The chamber brush handle takes the split jag for cleaning the chambers after using the chamber brush. My Gaspar Arizaga side lock ejector now has a very nice case for display and transport to and from SXS events. I've been using Jeff's compact single and his motor case and like them. They are pretty nice but not suited for shipping or airline use. Not so good for bouncing off the boot of your English sports car but they are nice cases. First 2 barrel case I've seen that is nice and not cost prohibited. For those that like to take the time, the traditional cleaning accessories are fun, work well and enjoyable to use. Spent some recovery time reading through all the pages on the "General Discussion" section and the amount of knowledge posted is really the best source of information of any of the double gun forums on the net. Remarkable resource. Thanks Dave.

Eric, Wishing you a speedy recovery, hope you had a nice holiday in spite of it. I have a couple of Jeff's cases myself and am about to get another for my new Churchill. Although not necessary, the accessories really complete the case. Had you considered the Galazan cases? Karl

Karl, the Galazan cases are nice but larger than needed. I wish they were green instead of mustard color. Motor case and toe under from Jeff's are very compact and do not take up much space when packing for a shoot. I think the compact 2 barrel case is about the size of the Galazan single. I've been trying to get Jeff to make a case suitable for a under lever hammer gun. Now that would really fill the bill for us hammer gun fans. Mark's Born Again Doubles has a period style bore brush the is perfect for those Victorian/Edwardian guns and it too works nicely. I'm thinking of a Jeff's leather compact case for my Stephen Grant and Sons 30 inch barrel side lock side lever. Your Churchill would look pretty spiffy in one

Eric, Here are the two cases that I have. I prefer the combination locks on Jeff's cases to the key locks. I'm going with a ou/sxs case for the Churchill because I find it easier to use than the toe under, as far as removing and replacing the stock in the case. Karl

Very Nice! Nice guns too! I suppose I am a bit odd but at home, after the days shoot at the range, or at the hotel after a days shooting during a multi day shoot I like to use the original style cleaning equipment. Puts me in touch with the guns during their heyday. Relaxing with a good cigar and good single malt. I carry my "modern equipment" for a quick clean when I'm under time constraints. I do like to "putz" around a bit.

Eric, Not odd at all, I too have the wooden rod with cleaning accessories in my gun room for cleaning as it just feels right. On the road however, I use a Boresnake kept in my hunting case for quick temporary cleaning. Karl

Great gift to yourself even though a little late!!! I've had a three piece rosewood cleaning rod for decades now and the only thing I use. I've had it so long now I can't remember for the life of me where I bought it. The 12 gauge rosewood rod I bought recently off of ebay when I searched through antique firearms cleaning supplies. Strong stuff. There is just something about wood and brass.

Kleenbore actually made a three piece pakkawood one with American threads. Proshot makes one also, but other than those all the wood rods have English threads. Jeff's and Galazan carry the English accessories so it's not a problem. Something about the warmth of wood......... Karl

Back to the day when the old double barrel shotgun was hanging over the doorway or fireplace with the hunting bag and horn.
