Anyone have a chart showing the bore measurement ranges for German shotguns proofed in the '20s?

Were the same as British measurements?

Thanks,

OWD

This is the table for barrels intended for bullets, rifled or not. Again, the gauge number is followed by the diameter in mm, the powder and bullet weight for the 1st,2nd and sevice load. These gauge numbers on rifle barrels cause a lot of confusion now. They stand for the bore or laand diameter of a rifled barrel, not the groove or bullet one. Gauge numbers were used by the Zella-Mehlis proofhouse up to 1910, Suhl to 1912. Mauser, Oberndorf proofhouse, even stamped them on some barrels post-WW1. All Mauser .22 barrels up to 1945 are stamped with the gauge number "459".

Thanks. I guess that's what I need -- or a start.

Now I need to convert the measurements to MM or find a metric bore gauge.

Guess it's not as easy as I had hoped.

Appreciate the help.

Gregg

I'm sure there were tabular versions of the rules changes in 1911/1912 that migrated to mm. Maybe the 1939/1940 law might list such?

mm/25.4 = inches. Example 17/25.54 = .669", this is the marking on my 16 gauge Halifax/Darne bores. Nominal 16 gauge size is .662 inch or 25.4 times .662" = 16.8 mm. All you need is a little hand held calculator & remember that number of 25.4 conversion factor.

Thanks.

Now does anyone have high-res versions of those charts so I can read them?

German guns I've owned and on which I've checked bore diameter seem to conform pretty closely to the British measurements. I've seen them both overbored and underbored: 12's that were 13's and one 20 that was a 19. (And so indicated via the proofmarks.)

I too think the German modell was based on the British modell seeing @ one time the Germans thought they wanted to be British. So there should be little difference. But then again there are exceptions........
