I shoot 24 ga at preserve quail on occasion.
The one 24 ga gun I have is very light and I have found I simply shoot a six pound gun better.
As for buying one, keep your eyes open and search regularly, they do hit the market time to time.
As for Ammo, factory loads and reloading components are available from BPI. I had RMC make me 30 all brass shells and they work well.

I have shot a 24 gauge pinfire on occasion. It was given to me by a generous friend. I had shells made to my design by Rocky Mountain Cartridge.

I still shoot both gauges and like the 24 a lot. I have a Ferlach 24 hammer gun that is a mod full gun that I sometimes load spreaders with the Polywad 20 ga disk and a German 24 hammer gun with open chokes that I use for woodcock and quail. I load 7/8 oz fiber loads for these guns or use factory Fio. which are available from various vendors. These guns handle great and are a little lighter than a 20 ga and to me shoot better than 28 ga. I sold a couple of 28 and kept one. The 32 ga I use black powder for them and shoot 5/8 oz. in brass or plastic hull. I took a grouse with my pointer and 32 ga Belgium single shot with 32 in barrels. Kind of made my grouse year for we did not find many. The guns are out there but you have to look pretty hard to find them or be lucky. I believe you can get one from Fausti after talking to them at the Las Vegas Antique gun show. Dwight Beske

I think my friend Joe Norcom shoots them.

I still shoot my 32 Poli Anson Extra BLE 28" IC/Mod. I shot it at the Vintage Cup in Sept. My gun is based on a 28 gauge frame.
RST now offers a nice 32 ga round. At the Vintage Cup, they hadn't gotten proper packaging. They sold 50 rd ZipLock baggies. I bought all the #9 they had. RST 2 1/2", 9/16 oz of #9. It is a great load in a Cheddite hull. The hull should reload more times than the Fiocchi hull. I haven't started reloading it yet.
The RST staff share a 32 hammer gun at Vintage events.
I don't currently have a 24. I have had 3. I am always looking, but not too hard. The 24 ga reloaded with #9 has about the same pellet count as the fellow with 1 oz of 8s in his 12 or 16. They are usually surprised that the 24 can shoot as well as it does. Note, these were my reloads, not factory shells. The factory shells were my source of hulls.
There was a Poli BLE 2 barrel set in 24/32 here in Charlotte, from an estate. It sold recently to a bird hunter who wanted something different in the field.
This probably goes in the Gun That Got Away, but several years ago, Holt's had a Greener 24 ga Damascus SLE. It was a baby doll. I don't know where it when.
