A friend was looking at What he said was a Newman Bros, Hammer gun. I do not see Newman Bros in Side by Sides of the World.
I see Neuman & Co. Is this an omission in the book or?????

Thank you.

Never seen or examined one in person, but Don Zutz said good things about sample gun from this Belgian maker that he had. Not sure in which edition of Double Shotgun it was in, but one can take his advice or what he said to the bank. Quality of Belgian gun can be gleaned from looking at finish & polishing on pats not seen when the gun is fully assembled (water table, barrel flats,.....) Real good ones will show very good polish throughout meaning to tool marks, striations,....

I have a little 410 sxs hammergun stamped J.J. Weston that appears to have been made by Neumannn Frères (Newman Bros). It has a cast buttplate with a squirrel just like the one shown in the littlegun link. It has twist steel bbl's and appears to be fair quality. Cute little Bugger!

Haven't shot it yet as I have been doing some cleanup of the stock & the bores, but I intend to shoot it when done. I have some handloaded .410 2 1/2" shells set aside for this one.

I know of two marked Neumann Bros.
12ga sxs, 30inch steel, greener bolt. Two antelope on left lock plate.two ducks on right, marked Neumann Bros.
Barrels have the SPI mark (a co-op of Jansen, Doumoulin,& Neumann- Translates-sorta- to Society Pieces Interchangable) Very well made, proper barrel flats, not a JABC!
also:
A 410 sxs, 24 damascus, fully scaled, very, very cute.
Also marked Neumann Bros, and Machine Made. Some engraving, no animals etc.
Butt plate is missing, so no info on that.

m-4: please be sure the gun is chambered for .410 and not 44XL or 44-40 shotshells. 44XL can be used in a .410, but .410 should not be used in a 44XL chamber.

A former co-worker of mine's Wife had a little .22/.410 combo SxS hammer gun her father had brought back in WWII from Germany. It was chambered for a 2" .410 shell. Measurements showed it to be a true .410, not he .44XL or .44-40 Shot. I do not recall for certain now if the rifle barrel was .22LR or just .22 L, I do remember it wasn't the short. It had German proofs but don't recall if it had a maker's name or not. Was extremely Cute. Not truly good for a lot but Cute. I would have loved to have had it, of course it wasn't for sale but I did get to see it.
