He outgrew his Orion 20 gauge and his shooting instructor recommended moving up to a 12, so after much research, I located a LNIB SKB made Orion that looks like the pic above but is PERFECT. All are pleased and anxious to get his schedule in synch with mine and go to the range for some fun.

Let me know if you need that recoil pad replaced! Congrats to the young man.

OK, but the pad on the new gun is "new" with no wear as in the pic.

This variant of the Orion is new to me because of the full pistol grip with rosewood cap and the recoil pad. The closest Orion that I could find was the Sporting Clays model.

Anyhow the gun fits him and he loves it and is looking forward to a 600 bird tower shoot in March.

Nicely done. Those SKB Weatherbys were some solid guns.

Post some pics of your grandson smoking' some clay birds with his new gun, sometime, crs.

When you start talking grandsons and shotguns you've definitely got my ear.

Stan,
Good idea, will do. Meanwhile here he is after a recent pheasant and quail shoot at Hidden Lakes in east Texas.

Troupe is the tall 16 year old between his mom and me. This was likely his last hunt with his mom's Orion 20 gauge.

Great picture, crs. Troupe is a handsome young man, and very fortunate to have a hunting and caring grandad. BTW, Grandad looks to be enjoying himself, too!

Thanks, SRH

Good choice. Those are indeed well-made, quality guns. One thing you might consider is removing the flared pistol grip cap and white spacer and refinish the bottom of the grip. I did it on a 12 ga. version and it turned out great.

It's not too difficult if you've worked with wood before. Transforms the grip to a more classic look. Plenty of wood still there so it can have a slightly domed crown when finished.

John,
I looked for a NIB SKB Orion gun with the Prince of Wales grip, but did not find one. I am not good enough with wood work to try to change the grip shape, but if needed, I know some folks that could do it.
I plan to let Troupe shoot the gun some before making any changes as it is his gun, not mine. smile
The combination of poor weather and his busy schedule have kept us from taking it to the clays range, but I will take a picture to post when we finally do get to shoot it.
